Diyab Unconventional Pilot Project – Abu Dhabi

End User: Total / Adnoc

Ruwais Diyab is an unconventional gas development located onshore in the UAE and is operated by TotalEnergies. Discovered in 2019, Ruwais Diyab lies in block Ruwais Diyab Unconventional Gas Concession. The field is owned by TotalEnergies and Abu Dhabi National Oil and is expected to recover 913.63 Mmboe, comprised of 5,481.77 bcf of natural gas reserves.

Production from the Ruwais Diyab unconventional gas development project began in 2020 and is forecast to peak in 2035, to approximately 1000 Mmcfd of natural gas. Based on economic assumptions, the production will continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2056. The Ruwais Diyab unconventional gas development will involve the drilling of approximately six wells and includes a wellhead platform.

This project marks a significant milestone towards future full field development and is an important step towards ADNOC’s target of producing 1 billion standard cubic feet (scfd) of gas from the concession before 2030, ultimately enabling gas self-sufficiency for the UAE.

The unconventional gas is delivered through a purpose-built gas pipeline and centralized early production facility in the Diyab field which enables distribution through ADNOC’s gas network.
